What's new

• Reminders for a specific date and time. Alongside "On an interval" and "At specific times" there's now On a date — for "call the dentist on Thursday at 3", which neither of the repeating kinds could express. A one-off fires once and then retires itself. If your Mac was asleep at the moment it still arrives on waking, within half an hour; past that the moment has gone, and rather than pretend otherwise the reminder switches itself off.
• A proper icon picker. The + beside the icons opens a picker with over 1,200 emoji, grouped the way you'd expect and searchable — including by the words people actually use. "coffee" finds ☕ even though Unicode calls it a hot beverage; "rubbish" finds the bin; "gym" finds the weights. It searches as you type, from the second letter.
• Saved activity cards are named after the days they cover — FocusOS-activity-2026-08-19.png for a day, …-2026-08-13-to-2026-08-19.png for a range. They used to all share one name, so a folder of them told you nothing.

Fixes

• Ticking off a task mid-session could crash the app. The "task done" toast was being built and shown inside the click that completed the task, which laid out one view inside another's update — the reliable way into a macOS 26 crash. "Take a break now" had the same shape and is fixed with it.
• Editing a reminder into a one-off could leave it unable to ever fire, still showing as on. Reminders already saved that way are repaired on launch.

What's new

• FocusOS puts itself back if it stops unexpectedly. The app could disappear during the day — most often on waking from sleep — and nothing brought it back, because macOS only opens apps at login, not at wake. It now keeps watch on itself and returns within a few seconds. Quitting still quits, and turning off Open at login still means it stays shut after a restart.
• The heads-up before an eye break sits under the notch, in the same place every time, instead of following the cursor around. A card you have to find first is a poor warning.
• Longer break cadences: 90, 120 and 150 minutes, alongside the existing ones. The Focus tab and Settings now offer the same list — a cadence picked in one used to leave the other showing nothing selected.

Fixes

• Deleting every task left the Task tab unusable. The empty screen said "Hit Add New" while the only Add New button was hidden, and there was no other way to add one.
• Open at login could quietly stop working. Running FocusOS once from the disk image or your Downloads folder pointed the login item at that copy; move or delete it and nothing launched at login, with the switch still showing "on". FocusOS now keeps the registration on the installed copy.
• Waking from sleep no longer does its bookkeeping in the middle of the display coming back — one of the moments the app was most likely to crash.
• The break menu read "Next break in Held" while a break was waiting on a call; it now says why it is waiting.
• The activity summary read "Nothing tracked in daily yet".

What's new

• The heads-up before a break is now something you can act on. Thirty seconds instead of ten, and alongside Skip there's Start now and three snooze steps — +1m, +5m, +15m. Push a break out without opening the menu, or take it early and get on with your day.
• A paused break says so. If your camera or mic is live — a call, a recording — the break that just came due tells you it's waiting, instead of the countdown reaching zero and nothing happening. Once per pause, not once a minute. The same goes for a screen recording, and the Now tab carries the reason for as long as it lasts.

Fixes

• Eye breaks never arrived if a screen recorder was open. A recorder merely running counted as an active recording, so an app left open all day — Screen Studio, OBS, CapCut — deferred every break indefinitely. FocusOS now looks for an actual capture, not an open app.
• The heads-up could count down over and over while the break kept being pushed away.
• The break menu read "Next break in Held" while a break was waiting on a call.

What's new

• Completed tasks now filter by date. The Task tab has Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days and Custom across the top — so a finished list stops growing forever. Completed gets its own section, and tasks you tick off from now on are timestamped.
• Pause during calls actually knows when you're on one. It watches whether your camera or microphone is in use, instead of checking for a list of apps. That catches calls in a browser tab — Meet, or Zoom on the web — and stops Zoom sitting open in the background from blocking breaks all day. Breaks now hold until the call really ends, rather than interrupting after ten minutes.

Fixes

• The heads-up countdown could count down over and over without the break ever starting.
• The app could freeze for a couple of seconds when the break chime played.
• "Take a break now" no longer drops a fullscreen overlay onto a live call.
• Fewer spurious notification-permission errors at launch.
• Reduced background work while the popover is closed.

Removed

• The Clear All button, which deleted every completed task regardless of the range on screen.

FocusOS 0.6.1

• Break heads-up — a small countdown capsule now appears near your cursor 10 seconds before an eye break, with a Skip button. It sits calmly in place, only gliding over when you move to another part of the screen.
• Skip confirmation — skipping shows a brief FocusOS toast at the bottom of the screen with when the next break will come.
• Binding breaks are binding — with "Allow skip" off, the Escape key no longer bypasses a break (the safety hatches for camera issues remain).
• Fixed — opening Account Center could freeze the app for a few seconds while looking for cameras; toasts could appear off-screen; a boxy shadow artifact under floating capsules.

FocusOS 0.6.0

• Fresh native design — the Reminder, Activity, and Settings tabs (now "Account Center") are fully redesigned with a clean, native macOS look.
• Calmer breaks — the eye-break screen is now a minimal, distraction-free dark screen that's easy on your eyes, and the exercise camera got a sleek new heads-up overlay.
• Pick your camera — if you have more than one camera, choose which one counts your reps (Account Center → Breaks).
• Solid background option — prefer a flat panel over frosted glass? Toggle it in Account Center → Appearance.
